Painting Prep Checklist

Watching paint dry just got thrilling. A short guide to help your home be ready for the Firefly crew. Everything below helps us protect your things, work faster, and leave you with a finish you'll love. Not sure about a step? Just ask, we're happy to help.

1. Two weeks before

  • Confirm your start date and finalize color or wallpaper selections.
  • Order any wallpaper; rolls often ship in 2–3 weeks.
  • Note any repairs (holes, cracks, water stains) and let us know in advance.
  • Save inspiration photos in one place so we can reference your vision.

2. The week before

  • Remove wall art, mirrors, and anything hanging on the walls to be worked on.
  • Take down curtains, drapes, and window hardware if walls behind them are being painted.
  • Empty and remove contents from any cabinets or closets we'll be refinishing.
  • Arrange a plan for pets and small children during work hours.

3. The day before

  • Move small furniture and fragile items out of the work rooms.
  • Pull larger furniture 3–4 feet away from the walls being worked on.
  • Clear off dressers, nightstands, and mantles in the project area.
  • Remove outlet and switch plate covers, or leave them for us if you'd rather.

4. The morning of

  • Unlock any gates or side entrances we'll need for tools and materials.
  • Set your thermostat between 65–75°F for ideal paint and paper conditions.
  • Provide access to water for cleaning brushes and pasting tools.
  • Let us know where you'd like us to park and set up our work station.

5. After we're finished

  • Wait 24 hours before hanging anything back on painted walls.
  • Avoid washing walls for at least 2 weeks; paint continues to cure.
  • Keep the room ventilated for a day or two if you're sensitive to smells.
  • Touch-up paint will be labeled and left with you for future use.
